Manifesto

Ioanna Portolou | Griffon Dance Company
21-25 Sep 2021
Piraeus Municipal Theatre

Manifesto is based on the feeling that reality no longer exists as we know it. Values, beliefs and words have their meaning. We may be certain, to some extent, of the words, but perhaps their content is not the same as it used to be.

What does “fairness” mean today? Humans rights? Objectivity? Freedom? Power? If we were to proclaim the Declaration of Human Rights today, would it sound like a manifesto or a funeral speech?

Using as basic research material declarations, letters, political speeches, manifestos, literary and poetic texts, philosophical essays, encyclopedic definitions, but also personal texts, the choreographer explorer the transition from a pre-existing condition to a new one. We stand on the line that connects the personal with the collective. We explore our personal conflicts and the contradictions that make us human beings.
